In implementation of the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Qatar's embassy in Philippines Friday delivered urgent relief aid from the Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) via an air bridge from the Qatari Armed Forces to the Philippine Red Cross to support the victims of Typhoon Vamco.
The aid delivery ceremony was attended by the President of the Philippine Red Cross Society, Senator Richard Gordon, and Qatar's ambassador to the Philippines Dr Ali bin Ibrahim al-Maliki.
The aid included more than 40 tonnes of food, shelter materials, tents, water and sanitation units, generators, rescue boats, and various other materials.
Senator Gordon expressed his thanks to Qatar for its humanitarian efforts, considering Qatar a fundamental and strategic partner of the Philippines in this field, and praised the projects and contributions provided by Qatar to the Philippines during the past period.
The urgent humanitarian aid comes within the framework of Qatar's extended aid to help friends in the Philippines, and its commitment to alleviate suffering and strengthen international efforts in the field of emergency aid.
The Qatari humanitarian aid programme is implemented in co-operation and partnership between Qatar Charity and the Qatar Red Crescent Society, and the materials will be distributed on the ground urgently to those affected in co-operation and co-ordination between Qatari Red Crescent and the Philippine Red Cross.
