The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the Climate Change Department, participated in a virtual workshop on carbon taxes and the policies of applying carbon pricing in developed and developing countries. The two-day event was organised by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs in partnership with the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the United Nations Environment Programme. Several examples from countries such as Canada, South Africa and Colombia, that have implemented a carbon tax were presented. The details of the carbon tax collecting mechanism, its importance and relationship to the Paris Agreement of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) were also discussed.
