Qatar reaffirmed the peaceful settlement of the Palestine cause through negotiations between the two parties on the basis of the agreed references, the resolutions of the international legitimacy, the land for peace principle, the road map and the Arab peace initiative, as well as the achievement of the two-state solution that guarantees establishing a viable Palestinian state on the basis of June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, ending the Israeli occupation of the Arab territories, including the Syrian Golan, ensuring the rights of the Palestinian people and finding fair solution for the refugees issue.
This came in Qatar's statement delivered by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani before the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in its 75th session to discuss the Palestinian cause.
Ambassador Sheikha Alya affirmed that Qatar supports all the efforts aimed at solving the Palestinian issue and achieving peace in the Middle East. She also reaffirmed that Qatar supports all the annual General Assembly resolutions on the issue of Palestine and the Middle East as it is based on the principles of the international laws, the purposes enshrined in the UN charter, the international norms, the respect of human rights and the maintenance of international peace and security.
Ambassador Sheikha Alya also reaffirmed that Qatar will continue to provide political and humanitarian support for the benefit of the Palestinians, explaining that Qatar's support exceed $1bn through the Qatar Fund for Development and the Gaza Reconstruction Committee, in addition to the contributions provided by the institutions of civil community, as aid was provided in areas including education, electricity supply, infrastructure, housing maintenance and construction, and employment financing.
HE Sheikha Alya pointed out that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani directed, this year, to provide $150mn to cover humanitarian needs, including addressing the coronavirus pandemic and its effects. She indicated that Qatar has recently raised its contribution to the benefit of UNRWA, stressing that the role played by the agency is very important and indispensable in order to meet the basic needs of millions of Palestinian refugees and ensure stability.
Israel's occupation of Arab lands, attempts to annex Palestinian lands illegally, settlement activity in the occupied territory, measures aimed at changing the character, legal status and demographic composition of Jerusalem, the siege of the Gaza Strip, the use of excessive violence against civilians, arbitrary detention, and obstruction of freedom of movement, the demolition of Palestinian homes, the exploitation of their natural resources, and other violations are all practices that constitute a flagrant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions, HE Sheikha Alya explained.
Ambassador Sheikha Alya renewed Qatar's commitment to provide all the political and development support for the Palestinian brothers, and its firm position in solidarity with the Palestinian people to obtain their just and legitimate rights.
