Qatar University-College of Engineering (QU-CENG) and the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to co-operate in the fields of academic research, student training and support, in terms of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) yesterday.
The MoU was signed by QU President Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham and Mohamed Ali al-Mannai, President of CRA, during a ceremony held at the QU headquarters and in the presence of officials from both the institutions.
The MoU shall be valid for four years from the effective date. The co-operation framework and scope of work include co-ordination and co-operation in various fields, such as exchanging experiences and information to enhance co-operation in the areas of scientific research related to ICT. Also it includes the co-ordination and co-operation in organising seminars, workshops and training courses related to ICT.
Besides, the co-operation framework and scope of work include implementing joint programmes related to public awareness and consultation, co-operating in research studies for telecom services, networking, systems, in addition to modern and future applications. Finally, co-operating in any other possible fields of common interest.
Commenting on the MoU, QU President Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham said: “The MoU highlights QU’s continuous efforts to provide solutions to local challenges, in line with national priorities towards a knowledge-based economy. It will also serve to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer and provide consultancy and research services, which will contribute to driving socio-economic development and sustainability in the State of Qatar.”
For his part, President of CRA Mohamed Ali al-Mannai said: “CRA welcomes the signing of the MoU. It will enhance our co-operation and will support training and developing youth skills and increase their knowledge of ICT, which contributes to achieving one of the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 – Qatar’s ability to create a balance between an oil-based and a knowledge-based economy, helping diversify the country’s economy.”
“The MoU will open windows to exchange experiences and information, thereby enriching scientific research and research studies related to ICT,” he added.
On the sidelines, the awards ceremony for the winners of Qatar Internet Exchange Point (QIXP) website design competition was held. The competition was conducted in co-operation between CRA, QU and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers - State of Qatar Chapter (IIEE-SQC) and was open to all students who are living in Qatar. The committee evaluated the designs and selected the design submitted by Nasir Hafez Moulana Yaqub Ali as the first-place winner. The winner will continue working on the design development until QIXP website goes live.
