The president of the State Audit Bureau and chairman of the executive council of the Arab Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (Arabosai), Sheikh Bandar bin Mohamed bin Saoud al-Thani, yesterday presided over the 61st virtual meeting of the organisation’s executive council.
Opening the meeting, Sheikh Bandar bin Mohamed bin Saoud al-Thani said the event, which is being held in light of the continuing exceptional circumstances imposed by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and the resulting economic and social challenges, “has made us more convinced and aware of the importance of strengthening joint efforts to upgrade regulatory bodies to overcome the negative impacts of this pandemic.”
He pointed out that Arabosai was the first to set up plans to deal with the repercussions of the pandemic and to ensure the continuation of the organisation’s work and its efforts to enhance the capabilities of member supervisory agencies through recommendations and proposals that were adopted in the extraordinary council meeting held at the beginning of the crisis.
He expressed his confidence that the organisation will emerge stronger, more effective and be able to achieve its goals, and keep pace with the successive developments in the field of oversight work. The two-day meeting of the executive council of Arabosai will discuss many important topics, including the report of the head of the executive council on the council’s activities and the organisation’s activities since the 59th meeting. It will also discuss reports of the general secretariat and sub-committees of the organisation, the presentation of the reports of the bodies on their participation in the work of the committees and working groups of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (Intosai), the approval of the organisation’s accounting system, the closing account for the year 2019, and the estimated budget for 2020.
