* Celebration held under slogan '67 years globally, one year in the State of Qatar and the Middle East, and many more to come'
The National Association of Women in Construction (Nawic Qatar) has celebrated its first anniversary with a special gathering, in the presence of a number of dignitaries, executives and professionals in the construction sector.
The ceremony was graced by Rashid bin Ali al-Mansoori, CEO of Qatar Stock Exchange; Dr Abdullah Yaqoub al-Sayed, president of the Lean Construction Institute (LCI Qatar); and Ahmed al-Ansari, director of the Technical Office, Public Works Authority (Ashghal).
The ceremony began with the Qatari national anthem, followed by a speech by the president of the association, Billie Teshich, who expressed happiness at all the achievements recorded since Nawic's launch in 2019 as the "first association of its kind in the Middle East".
She also highlighted how Nawic is "committed and dedicated to deliver its vision, which is women's empowerment and supporting their contribution to the construction industry". She concluded by expressing gratitude to all the association’s sponsors, supporters and keynote speakers who shared their experience through the Nawic Qatar events.
The ceremony included a presentation on the association’s achievements since its launch in November 2019. Despite the circumstances the world has been going through from the beginning of 2020, Nawic has "committed itself to providing virtual events and seminars in line with the association’s plan for this year", according to a press statement.
A plan for the next year and Nawic Qatar's future aspirations were also presented by founding member Carly-Jane Figgis.
The ceremony concluded by recognising all the association’s sponsors, supporters and keynote speakers from the public and private sectors.
Dr Ghada Darwish Karboon, a board foundation member, said: “We are proud to celebrate this occasion and witness the growth of the association since last year. Establishing the association is a journey we started together and we’ll carry on achieving its goals.”
Amna Mabrouk, events manager of Nawic Qatar, added: “We are proud that we moved ahead this year towards achieving the Nawic gaols. The construction industry is a vital and broad sector that accommodates women's capabilities under various specialties. It’s an opportunity to highlight women's achievements in construction though Nawic Qatar's activities.”
