Qatar Chamber participated in the 11th Arab-German Energy Forum held on Tuesday via video conferencing.
The virtual event was organised by the Ghorfa Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in co-operation with the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and the Society for International Co-operation (GIZ).
Qatar Chamber board member Dr Khaled bin Klefeekh al-Hajri and general manager Saleh bin Hamad al-Sharqi represented the chamber at the forum, which brought together regional ministers, CEOs, policy makers, and industry leaders to discuss and explore the challenges and opportunities facing the energy sector in the evolution and transformation to decarbonised energy systems.
Al-Hajri said Arab-German relations have seen substantial development at all fields, and stressed the importance of exchanging expertise between both parties in the energy sector, particularly renewable energy.
He said the forum offers a good opportunity for investors and representatives of companies working in energy sector to underpin co-operation in the sector and expand the Arab-German commercial relations in various sectors, particularly the energy sector.
Al-Hajri said the Arab countries are eager to take advantage of the vast expertise of German companies and industries in the vital sector.
Al-Sharqi lauded Qatar-Germany relations, stressing that Germany provided its scientific expertise to many strategic projects in Arab countries, including the implementation of many infrastructure projects in the energy sector.
He further added that several leading German companies participated in the implementation of various strategic projects in Qatar, including electricity generation. He noted that there are over 300 German companies operating in Qatar in various sectors.
Al-Sharqi said trade volume between the two countries amounted to $946mn in the first half of 2020 despite the Covid-19 pandemic, and increased by nearly 10% from $2.1bn in 2018 to $2.3bn last year.
President of the Ghorfa Arab-German Chamber of Commerce & Industry Dr Peter Ramsauer said the forum offered an opportunity to highlight a range of topics relating to investment in energy sector and strengthen co-operation between Arab and German companies in energy and renewable energy sources, especially that there is a host of opportunities in which both sides can co-operate and benefit from German expertise.
Ramsauer also stressed that enhancing co-operation between Germany and Arab countries is a priority for the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
