The Amir Cup 2020 Shooting & Archery Competitions commenced with the trap round at the Lusail Shooting Complex yesterday.
Among the many seen fine-tuning their skills at the Lusail Range included Qatar’s shotgun athletes Mohamed al-Rumaihi, Nasser al-Hamidi, Saeed Abu Sharb and Rashid al-Athba. Many archers were also seen practising ahead of the men’s Recurve 2x30 Qualification and Recurve Elimination (30m) which will be take place today and tomorrow.
The prestigious championship will see the participation of top Qatar shooters and archers in the men, women and youth category in the 17-day long event which will conclude on November 28.
Saoud al-Qahtani is head of the shotgun referees committee for the championship.
Speaking about the Amir Cup championship, he said, “This prestigious tournament is an opportunity for all our shooters and to enhance their experience and to sharpen their skills. We all know that this sport needs participants to keep developing and such championships provide them with the ideal needed platform so that they can be ready for international competitions.
As for the referees, he said. “We have a distinguished referee cadre and we have prepared a refereeing team not only for the skeet, trap and double trap competitions, but also to referee the rifle, pistol, and archery competitions. We hope that this committee will have a role in the success of the Qatari shooting and ensure their march in all the competitions they are involved in.”
