Qatar enjoys great regional, global position: ambassador
Ambassador of Qatar to Mexico Mohamed bin Jassim al-Kuwari affirmed the high and great standing of Qatar in the region and the world.
In an interview with the Mexican channel Milano, the ambassador said that Qatar is an important centre for sport in the region and the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup is an opportunity to transcend all differences between cultures and people.
Regarding Qatar’s preparations to host millions of fans around the world, the ambassador said: “We welcome everyone in Qatar.
It will be a distinguished experience through which the audience learns about Qatari culture, customs, and traditions.” Preparations continue to host the first edition of the World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab world.
Four of the tournament’s stadiums have been completed, and construction continues on the rest of the stadiums, which will be completed next year, the envoy added.
Although the current period is considered difficult due to the circumstances of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, work continues on the infrastructure projects as planned, he said.
On workers’ rights, ambassador al-Kuwari said that working hours have been set for summer, and workers are not allowed to work during the day in hot conditions.
He said that starting this year, a new wage law was applied, so that the minimum wage is at least 11,000 Mexican pesos, adding that the reforms that have been done will benefit workers and improve their safety. Many accusations about conditions of workers in 2022 World Cup stadiums are unfounded, ambassador al-Kuwari clarified.
Ambassador al-Kuwari also spoke, in another interview with Mexican News Channel 13, about the cultural and tourism aspect of Qatar.
He pointed out that there are many tourist attractions in Qatar and places that can be visited such as museums, markets, and beaches, in addition to the hospitality and diversity of customs and traditions that characterise Qatar, which makes the visit distinctive.
