Qatar participated via videoconferencing in the meeting of the 112th session of the Permanent Council of La Francophonie, which was chaired by Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie Louise Mushikiwabo. Ambassador of Qatar to France and Qatar's representative to the International Organisation of La Francophonie Sheikh Ali bin Jassim al-Thani represented Qatar in the meeting.
The participation of Qatar in the meeting falls within the context of its constant desire to participate in the various summits, ministerial conferences, and meetings held by the organisation at all levels, and its commitment to the values of Francophonie since its accession to the International Organisation of La Francophonie as an associate member in 2012.
During the meeting, the members of the Permanent Council of La Francophonie praised the work accomplished by the Secretary-General and her work team regarding the administrative and financial transformation of the organisation, and its contribution to the sound management, and approved the new financial regulations of the organisation.
Member states and governments also welcomed the progress achieved in a number of pilot projects for Francophonie, notably the project of teacher mobility in the Francophone countries and the establishment of a youth radio station in the Sahel region.
On the other hand, the Permanent Council of La Francophonie witnessed the official return of Burundi to the Francophone organisations after adopting the decision to lift the suspension of multilateral co-operation on it and decided to lift the suspension of the membership of Mali in the Francophonie, encouraging the Malian authorities to continue restoring the constitutional order in a sustainable and credible manner.
