In an effort to portray the cultural ties and showcase the blend of rich heritage between India and Qatar, MES Indian School in collaboration with RAN Public School, Rudrapur, India, recently conducted the ‘International English and Hindi Debate Competitions’, as part of the Foreign Exchange Programme on virtual platforms.
K Abdul Karim, MES governing board senior vice president; K P Abdul Azeez, director academics; Mohit Rai, RAN governing board director; H K Rai, retd. wing commander and RAN Public School chairman; Hameeda Kadar, MES principal; and Bhavana Bhanot, RAN Public School principal; were the chief guests and felicitated the contestants for their enthusiastic participation.
The panel of judges comprised eminent personalities from India and Qatar. The participants of the competitions spoke for and against the topic ‘Social Media Has By and Large Befitted Human Life’ in the English debate and ‘The Significance of Gandhian Thoughts in Today’s Scenario’ for the Hindi debate.
Ishman Kaur of RAN Public School and Carolyn Johnly of MES were adjudged the best speakers in ‘for’ and ‘against’ categories of the English debate respectively.
Harman Kaur Babbar and Somya Pasricha of RAN Public School won the first runners up position.
Jeswin Binu Chacko and Juveria Mohamed Nooru of MES won the best rebuttal speakers in ‘for’ and ‘against’ categories, respectively.
As far the results of the Hindi debate are concerned, Vedika Vilas Shinde of MES and Kashish Vasishtha of RAN Public School shared the best speaker position in ‘against the topic’ category.
Shourya Aditya Ballabh of RAN Public School was the runner-up.
Presthi Pawar and Navya Ghai of RAN Public School emerged as the best speaker and runner-up respectively for speaking in ‘favour’ of the topic.
Krish Gavaof RAN Public School was adjudged best rebuttal speaker in ‘against’ the topic category.
Mahek Shaikh of MES secured the runner-up position.
Prabhleen Kaur of RAN Public School was adjudged best rebuttal speaker in ‘favour of the topic’ while Shakti Suresh Iyer and Sai Satish Nair of MES shared the runners-up position.
The winners and the participants were presented with certificates.
The students of both schools presented a cultural programme.
Glimpses of India and Qatar were shown in a video presentation.
Members of the MES management, school officials, teachers and students were among those who were present for the virtual Foreign Exchange Programme.
The debate which was live-streamed on the school Facebook page was co-ordinated by the English and Hindi departments of both schools.
