The Shura Council held Tuesday its first meeting of the 49th ordinary session under the chairmanship of the eldest member HE Dr Yousif bin Mohamed Yousif al-Obaidan.
At the outset of the meeting, HE the Council's Secretary-General Fahd bin Mubarak al-Khayareen read out Decree No. 84 of 2020 that called upon the Shura Council to convene for its ordinary 49th session.
In Decree No. 84, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani called upon the Shura Council to convene for its ordinary 49th session on Tuesday, Rabi al-Awwal 17, 1442 AH, which corresponds to Nov. 3, 2020.
His Highness also called on all the designated authorities, each within its jurisdiction, to implement the decree, starting from the date of issue and its publication in the official gazette.
His Highness the Amir called in the decree upon the council to convene after reviewing the constitution, the Amiri decision No. 27 of 2019 to extend the Shura Council term, Decree No. 60 of 2020, to dismiss the 48th ordinary session of Shura Council, and the draft decree submitted by the Council of Ministers.
Then Al Obaidan delivered a speech welcoming the members wishing them success in their duties and in serving the people of the Qatar under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
He called upon the Council to elect a speaker of the Council, in accordance with the provisions of Article 9 of the council's Rules of Procedure.
The Council has unanimously re-elected HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud as the Speaker of the Shura Council and HE Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Sulaiti as Deputy Speaker.
Rashid bin Hamad al-Meadadi and Hadi bin Saeed al-Khayareen were elected as observers to the Council.
