Qatar University (QU) has lined up a number of events for Qatar National Sport Day (QNSD) on February 13, officials told a press conference on Thursday."We have various activities planned for both men and women in different fields," Sports Affairs Department director Dr Senaid Salem al-Marri said.Dr Asmaa al-Naemi, director of Sports Facilities Department, highlighted QU's efforts in sports activities. "The Sports and Events Complex was inaugurated in 2020, including Padel courts for boys and soon to be open for girls. The facilities adhere to global standards and are accessible to students, staff, faculty members, and QU alumni.Dr Alla El-Awaisi, director of Clinical Operations and Engagement, said: "The participation of QU's Health Sciences and Medicine sector, aims to underscore the significance of physical and mental health, emphasising sports as a key factor in a healthy life."According to the World Health Organisation, increasing global physical activity can prevent up to 5mn deaths annually. Shockingly, one in four adults and four in five teenagers lack sufficient physical activity, posing a risk of 500mn people facing non-communicable diseases by 2030.”Eatidal al-Qatami, director of Communications and Public Relations, invited all QU members to join in the QNSD activities on campus.Amina al-Kaabi, section head of Women's Athletics, said: "Two events will take place on campus: one in the Sports and Events building for families and another in the University Stadium building exclusively for women. The schedule runs from 8am to 12noon, featuring various group and individual activities, a station for children, and the padel championship at 4pm."Lolwa al-Yafei, Teaching Assistant of Exercise Physiology at the College of Education, emphasised the importance of sports and raising awareness of physical activity. She discussed the Physical Education Department at QU, focusing on training human resources for coaching and promoting awareness of sports' significance.
