Government schools saw 38% of students, out of the permitted 42%, attending on the first day of the rotational attendance system on Sunday, a number of school directors told local Arabic daily Arrayah.
The students, staff and teachers followed the prescribed preventive and precautionary measures against Covid-19, starting from before the students board the school buses, all through the school day and until they from the school gates.
There were only a maximum of 15 students per class. The body temperature of all students and school employees was checked, in addition to ensuring the healthy green status of Ehetraz app.
Registration of the attendance of students has started as mandated and notified early. Only those with chronic disease or any valid medical excuse for being most vulnerable to infection, supported by an approved medical certificate, are excused from attending school.
The students who exceed the permitted percentage of absence will be penalised and subsequently barred from sitting for the exams, unless they have a valid excuse.
Students, especially those of higher classes, stressed that attendance in classrooms is very important as it helps them to directly interact with teachers and better understand the lessons, and get their questions answered.
They said that the school managements have been very keen to implement the standard precautionary measures meant to protect them and ensure their health and safety.
The schools also organised intensive awareness campaigns on the first day to ensure students and parents were informed properly about the Covid-19 scenario and the measures to counter it, Arrayah added.
