Qatar Charity (QC) has released the 23rd issue of its 'Ghiras' magazine in Arabic and English.
The issue includes a series of reports, interviews and articles on humanitarian, charitable and voluntary work.
The editorial touches upon the Covid-19 pandemic that has confronted charitable organisations with additional challenges, whether in terms of redoubling efforts to mitigate the effects of the pandemic or in terms of the difficulties of moving and the sacrifices by field teams.
The editorial notes that the pandemic could not prevent these institutions from carrying out their humanitarian duties at the time of crises like the massive explosion that rocked the port area of Beirut, Lebanon, in August.
Under the title 'Sports for Peace and Development', the magazine has many items, among which there is a report on the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
This includes the ‘Sport for Peace and Development in Darfur’ initiative, which was launched by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), Qatar Charity and others, as a successful model for countering extremism in UNODC’s technical guide.
The title also has a report on the formation of the displaced people team, in addition to a statement by Massimiliano Montanari, CEO of the International Centre for Sport Security.
The issue includes an interview with Khaled Khalifa, UNHCR regional representative to the countries of the Gulf Co-operation Council, in which he has expressed pride in the UNHCR's partnership with QC. During the interview, he notes the impact of the coronavirus on humanitarian action, in addition to shedding light on other matters.
The issue also includes an interview with Khalifa bin Jassem al-Kuwari, director-general of QFFD, who has highlighted the efforts made by QFFD globally, its position among international donors, its role in supporting Qatari humanitarian and charitable organisations, and the prospects for developing its partnership with QC.
The current issue of the magazine also contains many articles, such as ‘Creative Volunteering: The Value-Added Humanitarian Action’ and ‘The need for good governance in the charitable sector’.
Further, ‘Um Fatima: The miserable life of the displaced’ and ‘Ann Cotton educates millions of girls within Africa’ are among the reading materials available in this issue of the magazine. Also, ‘Coronavirus: a shock of isolation and uncertainty for children’ and ‘Infected with Covid-19, Dr Mustafa sets an example in humanitarian action’, are highly interesting articles.
There are also some reports on developmental and humanitarian projects implemented in countries like Indonesia, Somalia, Bangladesh and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
