Qatar University (QU) and ExxonMobil Research Qatar’s agreement has been extended for another five years to support post-graduate research projects in environment risk assessment and monitoring and water re-use.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham and ExxonMobil Qatar president and general manager Dominic Genetti. Commenting on the agreement, Dr al-Derham said: “QU and ExxonMobil aim to strengthen the collaboration between academics and research, and the industry. This collaboration with ExxonMobil will build more synergy between our students, faculty and researchers, and the industry.
One of the key focus areas of QU is the energy and environment sector, and we look forward to sharing knowledge and collaborating on research in this field.”
“Through the agreement, both organisations will strive towards the continuous development of student research programmes, to promote academic and industry relations, foster innovation, and facilitate the development and use of state-of-the-art technology,” he added.
Genetti said, “We are very pleased to extend ExxonMobil Research Qatar’s agreement with Qatar University for another five years to support post-graduate research projects in the fields of environment risk assessment and monitoring and water re-use.
“The university has been a key partner of ours for more than two decades, and this collaboration is a great example of how research partnerships between industry and academia can help individuals succeed and make a positive impact in society,” added Genetti. Dr Mohamed al-Sulaiti, research director for ExxonMobil Research Qatar, stressed that the programme provides extensive academic and research opportunities for students.
“But what’s most important is that through it, society will benefit from a stream of advances in environmental sciences, that can vastly improve everyone’s life.
“Essentially, we’re working in partnership with the university to meet the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030 by collaborating with QU in developing human potential, and protecting Qatar’s natural environment at the same time,” he added.
