Al Ahli and Al Arabi stormed into the semi-finals of the Amir Cup with convincing victories at the Al Gharafa Sports Club yesterday.
While Al Ahli thrashed Al Shamal 85-56, Al Arabi accounted for Al Khor 73-59.
Rohndell Goodwin was the top-scorer for Al Ahli with 23 while Jonathan Lee and Ndoye Seydou excelled with 20 and 19 respectively.
Al Shamal put up a fight during the first 20 minutes of play but they were stifled by the Al Ahli defence in the third quarter during which they could only score five points.
That proved the turning point as Al Ahli raced to a 63-44 lead going into the final quarter, leaving Al Shamal with a mountain to climb.
Al Ahli added a whopping 22 points to close out the match, winning by a huge margin of 29 points.
In the other match, four players registered scores in the double digits as Al Arabi led for almost 35 minutes against Al Khor.
Sammy Monroe scored 19 and Ater Majok 16 while Badr Belfaki and Kheled Abdelbaset came up with 13 and 10 respectively.
Al Arabi had edged the first quarter 16-13, but a stellar show over the next 10 minutes saw them scoring 30 points while restricting their rivals to just six.
Leading by 25 points at the halfway mark, the match was well in Al Arabi’s control despite a 30-point surge by Al Khor in the final quarter.
Ahmed Yousif’s match-high 24 points went in vain for Al Khor.
