At least 540 tonnes of local vegetables were sold through the premium product and Qatar Farms programmes during September, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) said Monday.

While 237 tonnes were marketed through the premium product programme, 303 were through the Qatar Farms programme.

The two marketing programmes are supervised by the MME in co-operation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry with an aim to improve the marketing of locally produced vegetables, increasing their demand within the country and reducing the loss in production to the minimum.

Eventually, this would contribute towards increasing the income of Qatari farmers and encourage them to further invest.
