The project comes as part of Qatar Charity's initiatives to build educational centres in Indonesia to provide educational opportunities and achieve one of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, the statement notes. The project is aimed at providing various services to students and residents in the region.
The centre also aims to "contribute to the effective improvement in the education sector by advancing the educational level, enhancing community development and raising social awareness among students".
Dr Haji Omar Fawzi, president of At-Taqwa Bekasi that runs the project, commended the role of Qatari philanthropists and donors in supporting charitable work. He also praised the efforts of QC in implementing the project, as well as other important projects in Indonesia, especially in the sector of education.
Iskhein Omran, head of the Construction Department at Qatar Charity’s Indonesia office, said the centre located in Bekasi consists of a 756sqm two-storey school and 12 classrooms. Each classroom accommodates 25 students.
He added that QC has also constructed a 300sqm mosque in the school to accommodate approximately 300 students, in addition to a dormitory consisting of five rooms. Each room with six bunk beds can accommodate 12 students. He added that the centre has health facilities for students and the surrounding areas.
Since 2006, Qatar Charity has built hundreds of schools and multi-service centres in Indonesia. It has implemented 11 large development projects in Indonesia during 2017-2019, at a total cost of about QR13mn, in the fields of education, health and social care, benefiting thousands of orphans and low-income families, the statement adds.
