Well-known Qatari entrepreneur and publisher Salem bin Hassan al-Ansari died on Saturday, family sources said.
He had gained a prestigious social status among the people and won the respect of all for his excellent reputation, modesty, ethics, and good life. His lounge was open for visitors and used to be always full of people as he enjoyed great and strong relationships with others, built on the love of Allah and trust in Him.
Al-Ansari started his business career side by side with his official job at the start of the 1950s and kept pace with the pioneer development projects in the country such as Al Rumailah Hospital and the General Command headquarters that used to be known at that time as the Police Castle. Then he joined the religious courts, where he enjoyed strong relationship with its founder Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud, and his assistant Sheikh Ahmed bin Hajar.
The contracting company he founded in the mid-50s holds the number one in the registry of contractors in Qatar, and has been considered a pioneer in the field as it has accomplished various key projects across the country. It is considered today the first in building mosques in Qatar such as the Mosque of Sheikha Rawdah, Abdullah bin Abdulghani Mosque and other related buildings and projects.
Al-Ansari was not limited to urban development and construction but he always had taken care of building and developing man, as he established the first book house in Qatar in the start of the 1960s to spread knowledge, culture and good ethics. His publishing house Dar al-Thaqafa (Culture House) for publishing and distribution is considered today as the first publishing house at the regional level as it has published and distributed thousands of reference books of the Arabic and Islamic heritage and culture inside and outside Qatar through the various international book fairs in different Arab countries. It has also organised a number of book fairs independently in Qatar.
Besides the contracting business, his commercial activities covered various services . His company today manages various services at Mesaieed City and Dukhan City. He was also considered a founding partner in many commercial businesses such as Qatar Electronics Company, and the distributor of Sanyo since the mid-1970s until the 1990s. Throughout his life, he enjoyed excellent relations with many leaders, and important personalities and men of letters from across the Islamic world.
