* Call for applications closes on October 30
The British Council has once again launched the awards celebrating the outstanding achievements of the UK’s international alumni in Qatar and around the world.
To mark the occasion, British ambassador to Qatar, Jonathan Wilks said: “I’m delighted to announce the third cycle of the British Council’s Study UK Alumni Awards in Qatar. Through this scheme, we celebrate the achievements of the many Qataris who succeed in their studies in UK and return home to play an important part in the development of their own land. They represent an outstanding part of the human bridge between our two countries, which the UK values greatly, and an inspiration and example to others to follow in their footsteps. I encourage everybody qualified to apply.”
The Study UK Alumni Awards celebrate and showcases the impact and value of UK's higher education and raises the international profile of alumni who studied in the UK. Award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, industries and countries.
This will be the third cycle of the awards, which are first celebrated at a national level in Qatar. All applicants, including national awards winners, will then be put forward for the global awards set to begin from March 2021 until the winner’s announcement in September.
One of the global finalists of last year’s Study UK Alumni Awards 2019-20, Entrepreneurial category, hailed from Qatar - Khalifa al-Haroon, a graduate of Anglia Ruskin University. He is the founder and CEO of ILoveQatar.net and the I Love Qatar Network.
The national awards are open to UK alumni currently based in Qatar. UK alumni must have either studied in the UK at an officially recognised provider of UK university degree-level study for a minimum of a term or semester, or have been awarded a full UK degree-level qualification (or higher) by a UK university through a local institution overseas, within the last 15 years.
Less than one month is left for UK university alumni to submit an application, as the call for applications closes on October 30 at 1600GMT.
Finalists and winners of the awards will be announced in early 2021 during the annual Qatar-UK Alumni Networking ceremony. Award winners have the opportunity to raise their international profile, expand their professional networks and enhance their careers.
