Qatar participated in the special session of the WHO Executive Board on the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, which was concluded on Tuesday. 


The Delegation of Qatar at the special session was chaired by HE Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohammed Al-Kuwari, via remote communication technology.

During the two-day session, the Executive Board discussed several important topics, most notably updated information on the implementation of resolutions related to the response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Director-General of WHO provided a summary of the WHOs activities since January 2020 in response to the pandemic, and the steps taken to ensure lessons are learned and best practices are implemented as the pandemic develops.

Updated information was also provided by the co-chairs for the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, the Chairman of the International Health Regulations Review Committee and the Chairman of the Independent Oversight and Advisory Committee for the WHO Health Emergencies Programme.

The main functions of the Executive Board are to give effect to the decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, to advise it and generally to facilitate its work.
