The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA) held a seminar on Thursday to exchange expertise in the field of appropriate work and combating human trafficking with the Australian government in co-operation with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Project Office for the State of Qatar.
The seminar, which was held via teleconference, was chaired by assistant undersecretary for Labour Affairs at the ministry, Mohammed Hassan al-Obaidli.
He reviewed the most important legislation introduced in Qatar to achieve sustainable growth in the light of Qatar National Vision 2030. Al-Obaidli said the MADLSA was ready to benefit from the expertise of countries all over the world, with the goal of enhancing the labour market and supporting the private sector and companies operating in Qatar.
For her part, the charges d’affaires at the Australian embassy congratulated Qatar for its recent reforms in terms of introducing a minimum wage and ending the condition of seeking the approval of the employer before switching jobs.
Meanwhile, the head of ILO’s Project Office for the State of Qatar Houtan Homayounpour said the seminar stressed the importance of transparency.
The seminar is set to be the first in a series of exchanges between Qatar and Australia in the field of labour, which will help enhance bilateral relations.
