During the video conference, they also discussed ways to bolster co-operation during the 2022 FIFA World Cup through the draft trilateral agreement on health and sports between the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), the WHO and FIFA.
This is set to be the first of its kind, as it will strengthen the role of the WHO and the health sector during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
During the meeting, HE Dr al-Kuwari praised the important role played by the WHO, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic, and stressed Qatar's keenness to support the organisation's programmes.
Ghebreyesus thanked His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for Qatar's support to the WHO, other organisations and countries during the pandemic.
He also commended the progress of the health system in Qatar as well as the distinguished Qatari experience in combating the Covid-19 pandemic that has seen a low mortality rate.
The WHO chief said the Qatari has set an example for others.
Ghebreyesus said that the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be one of the most anticipated tournaments, after the world has gone through the Covid-19 pandemic, stressing that the role of the WHO will be stronger and more important during the tournament through the draft co-operation agreement between WHO and the FIFA signed last year to strengthen the role of the organisation during the event.
The meeting was attended by several officials from the Ministry of Public Health and the WHO.
