While the Tennessee Titans were dealing with a Covid-19 outbreak Tuesday, the Las Vegas Raiders may have landed in some pandemic-related trouble, too.
Quarterback Derek Carr was one of several Raiders to show up without masks Monday night at a fundraising event organised by tight end Darren Waller’s foundation, violating NFL regulations and Nevada restrictions.
Video from The Darren Waller Foundation charity event, held at the DragonRidge Country Club in Henderson, Nev, showed Carr and Waller were among a group of Raiders to attend the indoor function that also included Jason Witten, Zay Jones, Nevin Lawson, Foster Moreau, Hunter Renfrow, Derek Carrier and Nathan Peterman. They were mingling with guests in an effort to raise money for youth addiction but were not wearing masks. Raiders owner Mark Davis, who said he made a donation to the cause but did not attend, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the team would look into the matter internally.
“We obviously take responsibility for this,” Davis told the newspaper. “You don’t like seeing this. I don’t know that it’s actually been built into our memories that you have to wear a mask. Our organisation takes it very seriously.”
The NFL and NFL Players Association have an agreement that bans players from activities that violate state and local Covid-19 safety regulations in an effort to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The NFL already fined the Raiders $250,000 and head coach Jon Gruden $100,000 for not wearing their masks properly during a Week 2 win over the New Orleans Saints. The team, according to ESPN, is also reportedly being investigated for allowing unauthorised locker room access following that Saints victory. The country club was fined $2,000 for four state of Nevada violations, including people not wearing masks and more than 50 people at an event.

Fourth Titans player tests positive
A fourth Tennessee Titans player returned a positive Covid-19 test yesterday, NFL Network reported. Three players – defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, long snapper Beau Brinkley and practice squad tight end Tommy Hudson – were placed on the Reserve/Covid-19 list on Tuesday as the NFL shut down the team facility.
The Minnesota Vikings, who hosted the Titans on Sunday, also were sent into work-from-home mode but haven’t returned a positive test as of Wednesday morning, according to multiple reports.
The Titans also reported five positive tests among team personnel. Because the CDC suggests symptoms of the novel coronavirus might not appear for four to five days, both teams are expected to remain on lockdown.
Daily testing of both teams and their staffs will continue, commissioner Roger Goodell said in an open letter Tuesday.
The status of each team’s Week 4 game is to be determined. Tentatively, the Sunday games are on as planned with the Titans hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Vikings playing at the Houston Texans.
Contingency modeling includes options of playing additional Monday games and moving the games to Week 7 or Week 8.
NFL Network reported the league wants to prioritise safety while also limiting the number of moving parts set in motion by schedule shifts.
The Titans and Vikings share a bye week – Week 7 – but their Week 4 opponents are off Week 8.
