Hugh Grant was getting used to life as a father yesterday after a former girlfriend gave birth to a girl following a “fleeting affair”.

The pregnancy was not planned but Grant is said to be thrilled and on “friendly terms” with the baby’s mother, named in reports as Chinese actress Tinglan Hong.
The 51-year-old Notting Hill and Bridget Jones star was romantically linked to Hong, 32, earlier this year. His publicist said in a statement: “I can confirm that Hugh Grant is the delighted father of a baby girl.
“He and the mother had a fleeting affair and, while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive.
“He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms.”
Last month Hong appeared heavily pregnant as she strolled around London in a baggy pink and white top and cream cardigan. She is reported to have given birth by Caesarean section at the Portland Hospital on September 26. The child’s name has not been announced.
Grant, who has never been married, was last romantically linked to Chinese actress Tinglan Hong back in April this year as they were snapped out together on a string of dates in London.
He also dated socialite and writer Jemima Khan from 2004 to 2007 but his most well-known relationship was with actress Elizabeth Hurley and Jemima Khan.
In 2007, Grant told Vogue magazine that he would like to become a father as he was ready for the responsibility. He said: “As much as I adore myself, I’m quite keen to find someone else to care about more. I remember reading a Warren Beatty quote when he finally had children and said what a relief it was to not be all me, me, me.”
