Qatar has reiterated its support to the work of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), of which it became a member during the 2014 Shanghai Summit.
Speaking at a virtual meeting of foreign ministers of the CICA member states, HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi said.
Qatar has attended many of the CICA’s activities, including the participation of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani at the 5th Summit in Dushanbe, which demonstrates its interest in strengthening co-operation with Asian countries in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
The world is witnessing rapid changes that call for intensifying co-operation at the bilateral and multilateral levels, al-Muraikhi said.
In addition, the coronavirus pandemic represents an unprecedented challenge and threat to humanity, which needs collective action and co-ordination, al-Muraikhi said.
Al-Muraikhi said Qatar has provided $88mn to support over 80 countries fight the Covid-19 crisis.
He said Qatar is also working with the United Nations Development Programme, in the innovation lab, which includes more than 47 countries, to devise solutions to address the impact of the pandemic.
Qatar will continue its support for international institutions to develop health, prosperity and stability, al-Muraikhi said.
He also said Qatar believes in dialogue as a basic method for resolving disputes between countries and encourages dialogue between religions, civilisations, and cultures through organising regional and international conferences.
Al-Muraikhi said Qatar condemns terrorism, extremism and violence in all its forms and manifestations, regardless of its motives and source.
He added Qatar believes the countries in Asia have many available fields and commonalities to make the most of the capabilities available to them, adding that the continent is distinguished with its geographical and environmental diversity as well as rich and varied historical civilisations and cultures.
