The Cabinet Wednesday praised the speech of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani at the opening session of the 75th UN General Assembly on Tuesday.
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting held at its seat at the Amiri Diwan.
A statement issued by HE the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Issa bin Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi following the meeting described the speech as comprehensive and decisive when it came to Qatar's position on various regional and international issues, and in terms of the principles required to resolve global challenges and the region's crises.
Expressing its appreciation for His Highness the Amir's policy regarding the unjust blockade imposed on Qatar, the Cabinet said the Amir highlighted the great strides that the country has made in all fields over the last three years and how the nation enhanced its international image by respecting the UN charter and reiterating its commitment to dialogue and respecting sovereignty as the basis for resolving the crisis.
The Cabinet highlighted Qatar's commitment to the Palestinian cause, which was evident in the speech of the Amir. The Cabinet expressed hope that the international community would respond to the Amir's invitation , especially the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities to obligate Israel to lift the siege on Gaza Strip, put the peace process back on track , ending occupation within a specified timeframe and establishing an independent Palestinian state within 1967- borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and to end the Israeli occupation of all Arab territories.
The Cabinet also praised the Amir's call for stronger international cooperation to combat challenges related to epidemics, the climate, as well as issues related to poverty and achieve peace and security. The cabinet also endorsed the announcement of the Amir on enhancing partnership with UN agencies in the field of counter-terrorism.
The cabinet expressed appreciation for the participation of His Highness the Amir in the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly to Commemorate UN's 75th Anniversary.
His Highness the Amir's speech focused on ways to reform the UN in order to enable it to best address the unprecedented global challenges, the Cabinet said.
