The Ministry of Interior has signed an agreement with Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) to extend co-operation in implementing an optional course in forensic medicine.
The course will be presented by WCM-Q in co-operation with the Forensic Medicine Centre at the ministry, the MoI said in a press statement.
The agreement was signed by the assistant director of Public Security, Maj-Gen Abdullah Mohamed al-Suwaidi, and dean of WCM-Q Dr Javaid Sheikh.
Speaking on the occasion, Maj-Gen al-Suwaidi said forensic medicine is "one of the main pillars of achieving justice, uncovering crime, decoding its vagueness and helping the judiciary, prosecution and investigation officers reach the perpetrator".
He noted that the agreement between WCM-Q and the Forensic Medicine Centre would contribute to the participation of faculty members at the College with the forensic team at the Centre to provide educational curriculum and training in forensic medicine.
For his part, Dr Sheikh welcomed the co-operation agreement and described it as an opportunity for students of the College to train in forensic medicine at the MoI centre and benefit from the expertise of doctors working there and learn about the work they do.
The co-operation agreement includes providing good material for college students during the study period for specialisation, which combines the tasks of the doctor and investigator at the same time.
MoI Planning and Quality Department director Brigadier Abdul Rahman Majid al-Sulaiti said under the agreement, WCM-Q students who are registered for the subject will receive appropriate training from faculty members in addition to an integrated team of forensic doctors at the ministry's Forensic Medicine Centre.
He noted that the MoI had previously developed similar co-operation between the Centre and the College of Medicine at Qatar University.
Brigadier al-Sulaiti stressed that the MoI is constantly working in co-operation with academic bodies, research centres and civil society institutions in the country to achieve the common good, security and stability.
