An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 rocked Nagan Raya District in the westernmost Indonesian province of Aceh early today.
The quake was centred 43 kilometres southeast of Nagan Raya, at a depth of 125 kilometers, according to the Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
The tremor, at Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale II, was felt by people living as far away as Gunung Sitoli in the neighboring province of North Sumatra.
No immediate reports were received of any material damage, injuries, or fatalities.
Meanwhile, a quake of MMI V could be felt by nearly all individuals in the affected area and caused articles to dart off and pillars and heavy articles to shake, according to (Antara) news agency.
Indonesia sits on the geographically active "Pacific Ring of Fire", which is the world's greatest earthquake belt, owing to fault lines running from Chile to Japan and Southeast Asia.
