His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani met at the Amiri Diwan Office yesterday with Head of the Afghan Taliban's Political Office Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and the accompanying delegation, on the occasion of their visit to the country to participate in the Afghanistan Peace Negotiations.
At the outset of the meeting, His Highness the Amir expressed pleasure and satisfaction with the launch of these negotiations.
His Highness the Amir also wished that these negotiations will be a success and achieve the Afghan people's aspirations for national unity, progress and prosperity.
For his part, Baradar expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Amir for Qatar's hosting of the negotiations, and its supportive stance to establish peace, security and stability in Afghanistan.

As part of the efforts to achieve sustainable peace in Afghanistan, Doha witnessed the launch of the Afghanistan Peace Negotiations on Saturday with representatives from the Afghan government, the Taliban and Afghan civil society taking part in the historic talks.
The inaugural session of the negotiations was attended by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, as well as the two parties to the negotiations represented by Abdullah Abdullah from the Afghan government and Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar from the Taliban, in addition to several other officials.
Pompeo affirmed the role of Qatar and its great support for bringing peace to Afghanistan, noting that the historic negotiations that started in Doha launched a new path for the peace process.
In his speech during the opening session, Pompeo said everyone must dare to hope and look forward to the light and remember the darkness of the past four decades and the lost lives and opportunities, and note that suffering, pain, blood and destruction now lead to hope for Afghan people and their friends.
He expressed hope that the negotiations would lead to the desired peace and that everyone would be responsible, noting that the entire world wants the talks to succeed to achieve peace in the region.
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined that in implementation of the wise directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Qatar has continued its efforts to commence the intra-Afghan negotiations, in order to reach a political solution that ensures the achievement of peace for the Afghan people and fulfils its aspiration for stability and prosperity, extending thanks to the United States for its co-operation and appreciated efforts to facilitate the convening of these negotiations.
The current Doha negotiations follow the peace agreement signed between the United States and the Taliban in Doha in February.
