The Committee for Removal of Abandoned Vehicles continues its efforts to remove abandoned vehicles and a joint campaign was launched on Thursday at Umm Slal Municipality.

Launched in co-operation with the Municipality, the campaign is being implemented by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) in order to ensure environmental protection, better aesthetic ambience and cleanliness.

According to a MME statement, the campaign launch was attended by committee members Mohamed Faraj al-Kubaisi (assistant director, Cleaning Department), Marzouq Mubarak al-Masifari (assistant director, Department of Mechanical Equipment), Lt Yusef Fahd al-Ali (General Traffic and Patrols Department) and Lt Mohamed Jassim al-Tamimi from the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) along with officials from various departments and other members of the committee.

Al-Kubaisi said that the campaign will continue for one week until all abandoned vehicles are removed from the Umm Slal Municipal limits.“The campaign comes within the framework of the MME's continuous efforts to reduce the phenomenon of abandoned vehicles.

There will be more campaigns, awareness-raising initiatives and alerting car owners,” he added.

Al-Masifari said that the campaign to remove abandoned vehicles was launched last July in the municipality of Doha, then Al Rayyan, Al Khor and Al Thakira and it covered Al Daayen municipality last week.

He explained a total of 3,500 vehicles have so far been removed since July while a total of 7,500 vehicles were removed this year from all municipalities.

Al-Ali said the Traffic Department plays an important role in the campaign as it helps the removal process without obstructing traffic.

He urged the public to co-operate with the competent authorities and the awareness campaigns to remove abandoned vehicles.

Al-Tamimi said that the Lekhwiya is making great efforts in co-operation with the committee for removing the abandoned vehicles in the country.“Lekhwiya patrols maintain public security and participate in the campaign with its equipment to remove such vehicles,” he added.
