The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the Agricultural Quarantine Offices at various customs points, inspected 5,715 imported consignments, weighing 127,215 tonnes in June. They comprised plant consignments and production inputs, according to a statement. The inspections resulted in the destruction of eight consignments weighing 7.11 tonnes for violation of the agricultural quarantine law and for certain damages. The agricultural quarantine is the first line of defence for protection from crop infections. The preventive procedure is aimed at protecting the country’s agricultural wealth from foreign origin pests. All imported plants, agricultural products and any other materials are subject to phytosanitary regulations to ensure they conform to the standards followed by Qatar.
