Organisers of the SundanceTV Shorts competition are offering audiences a chance to meet members of the jury at a virtual event that will take place on September 8 between 2pm and 3pm Doha time.

The panel will include jury members Harold Gronenthal, executive vice president, Programming and Marketing, AMC Networks International; and Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir, who has written, directed and produced over 16 films, two of which premiered as official selections in Cannes.

In addition to tips on creating winning submissions, industry experts Doha Film Institute (DFI) CEO Fatma Alremaihi and Mohamed al-Subaie, acting CEO, beIN Media Group – Mena will shed light on the growing appetite for short films in the region and how aspiring filmmakers can make their stories stand out.

The session will be moderated by filmmaker and professor in residence at Northwestern University in Qatar, Dana Atrache. Audiences can register for the session online.

Launched by SundanceTV in collaboration with beIN Media Group and the DFI, the Mena edition of the SundanceTV Shorts competition is a platform for independent storytellers and emerging talent to share their stories.

The winner and three runners-up will be announced in November during the 8th Ajyal Film Festival. Their films will be screened during the festival and broadcast exclusively on SundanceTV on beIN channel 75 in MENA, later in the year.

Submissions to the 2020 SundanceTV Shorts competition can be made until October 18 at https://www.sundanceshortsmena.com/submission-form/ Entries can be submitted by the producer or director, who must provide proof of residence in the Mena.

Films should be no longer than 15 minutes and must be delivered with English subtitles if English is not the spoken language. SundanceTV Shorts competition is open for all who have a story to share, irrespective of whether the short film has been produced with sophisticated equipment or with a mobile phone.
