*Qatar welcomes signing of agreement

President of the Republic of South Sudan Lt General Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for providing the necessary support for the peace process in the Republic of Sudan.

Addressing the peace agreement signing ceremony between the Sudanese transitional government and the Revolutionary Front and other armed movements in Juba, the President of South Sudan extended his heartfelt thanks to the Amir of Qatar His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for providing the necessary support for the peace process, within the framework of the efforts of partners, friends and the international community to provide financial and technical support, which had a great impact on the stability and continuity of the mediation and reach final agreements.

The president of South Sudan also praised the role played by the parties to the peace process by responding to the call for peace and working to realise it on the ground.

QNA adds from Doha: Qatar welcomed the peace agreement signed by Sudan's transitional government, Sudan Revolutionary Front and a number of armed movements in Juba, South Sudan.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Qatar's hope that the rest of the factions would join the peace process in order to achieve comprehensive stability in Sudan. The ministry also expressed the hope the agreement will fulfill the aspirations of the brotherly Sudanese people and their just demands for freedom, peace and justice, and stressed Qatar's firm support for the unity and sovereignty of Sudan.
