Faleh Suwead al-Ajami warmed up for the grand finale in style as he won the Big Tour class during the 12th and final round of the Longines Hathab — Qatar Equestrian Tour yesterday. The third season of the annual series will conclude today with overall titles up for grabs.
Al-Ajami, who is second in Big Tour title race, sent a strong warning to his rivals after cruising to win with his 14-year-old gelding Carport in the 145cm class. Al-Ajami and Carport completed the round in 70.00secs at the Qatar Equestrian Federation’s (QEF) Indoor Arena.
Leader Hamad Nasser al-Qadi was not far behind al-Ajami as he finished second yesterday. The tussle between the two riders today will be the highlight of the final day’s competition. Al-Qadi finished his round in 72.51secs with his trusted gelding S I E C Lonnie. Nasser al-Ghazali, who won on Thursday, finished third with Quel Homme in 72.74secs yesterday.
Al-Qadi leads the Big Tour with 180 points but just seven points separate top four showjumpers. Just three points behind is al-Ajami (177). Khalid Mohamed al-Emadi (175) is third, while Salman Mohamed al-Emadi (173) is fourth, with the both riders needing a victory to take the crown.
In the Medium Tour yesterday, Rashid Towaim al-Marri took an easy win astride Lamm Addiction Z. The pair was four seconds clear of second-placed combination Jaber Rashid al-Amri and Argelith Squid.
Al-Amri also took the third position with Canavaro De Muze (E.T.).
