* Governor of Lebanese central bank thanks Qatar for supporting Lebanon and praises $50mn contribution at the International Conference on Support to Beirut and the Lebanese People

Senior Lebanese dignitaries yesterday expressed gratitude and appreciation for His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for Qatar's solidarity and continuous support for Lebanon in all crises.

This came during HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani's visit to Beirut on Tuesday, where he met with a number of dignitaries, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Besides Lebanese President Michel Aoun, HE Sheikh Mohamed also held meetings with Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri, Caretaker Prime Minister Dr Hassan Diab, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Charbel Wehbe, leader of the Future Movement party Saad Hariri, governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon (Banque du Liban) Riad Salame, Grand Mufti of Lebanon Sheikh Abdul-Latif Derian, Cardinal Patriarch Moran Mor Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and secretary-general of the Lebanese Red Cross George Kittana.

During his meetings with Berri, Dr Diab and Wehbe, HE Sheikh Mohamed expressed the condolences of the government and people of Qatar for the victims of the Beirut port blast, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

On their part, Berri and Dr Diab expressed gratitude and appreciation for His Highness the Amir with regard to Qatar's solidarity and continuous support for Lebanon in all crises.

During these meetings, the two sides discussed co-operation relations as well as the developments in Lebanon, the Qatari assistance to support the brothers in Lebanon after the explosion, in addition to issues of common concern.

HE Sheikh Mohamed also reviewed co-operation relations during his meeting with Hariri, developments in Lebanon and issues of common concern.

Meanwhile, the governor of the Lebanese central bank extended thanks and appreciation to Qatar for supporting Lebanon, praising the $50mn contribution provided by Qatar at the International Conference on Support to Beirut and the Lebanese People, QNA said.

The meeting reviewed Qatar's support to Lebanon to face the economic crisis and the impacts of the Beirut port explosion on the economy, as well as issues of mutual concern.

The meeting with the Grand Mufti of Lebanon reviewed the general situation and the conditions of the Lebanese people in the wake of the Beirut port explosion, in addition to issues of mutual concern.

In his meeting with the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, HE Sheikh Mohamed offered the condolences of the government and people of Qatar for the victims of the Beirut port blast, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

For his part, the Patriarch expressed thanks and appreciation for His Highness the Amir for Qatar's support to Lebanon and its continuous solidarity with Lebanon in all crises.

The meeting discussed the general situation and the conditions of the Lebanese people in the wake of the Beirut port explosion, and stressed the importance of stability and national unity.

HE Sheikh Mohamed also toured the Beirut port explosion site, where he was briefed on the extent of losses and the damage inflicted on the surrounding areas.

He was accompanied during the tour by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence in the Lebanese caretaker government, Zina Aker, and Qatar's ambassador to Lebanon Mohamed Hassan Jaber al-Jaber.
