Katara – the Cultural Village Foundation yesterday announced that 506 participants took part in the Katara Prize for Cartoon competition, which was held from June 20 to August 15.
The entries focused on the topics of working from home and homeschooling, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The competition addressing homeschooling had 262 participants from both genders, representing about 17 Arab nations and 31 other countries.
On the topic of working from home, 244 participants from both genders participated in the competition, representing 36 non-Arab countries with 171 entries and 16 Arab countries with 73 entries.
A statement issued by Katara yesterday said that a major celebration will be organised in November to distribute prizes among the five winners of the Katara Prize for Cartoon.
Also, an exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the celebration of the first session of the award, showcasing the best drawings in the competition. This is in addition to the launch of a book on the art of caricature in Qatar, including a historical account of the march progress of this art in the country, as well as its most famous pioneers.
Further, a conference will be held on this form of art and its uses in social and other types of criticism, as it has proven its ability to communicate critical messages.
The first-place winner will get $5,000, followed by $4,000 for the second-place winners, $3,000 for third, $2,000 for fourth and $1,000 for fifth.
The launch of the Katara Prize for Cartoon came in the light of the precautionary measures taken to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, including the policy of social distancing and one of its key manifestations – the adoption of homeschooling and working from home. Accordingly, these were chosen as the topics of the competition.
