The operators of gymnasiums are wooing potential customers with attractive packages while strictly following the precautionary and preventive measures laid down by the health authorities.
They are also trying to retain existing customers and encourage them to renew their memberships with these packages, it is learnt.
Gymnasiums around the country resumed operations recently with the launch of Phase 3 of the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions.
They are allowed to operate with a maximum of 50% of their capacity at any time to allow for more physical distancing among customers. Besides, they strictly implement all preventive and precautionary measures, such as measuring the body temperature of both customers and staff and having to show the 'green' healthy status on the Ehteraz app before being allowed in.
In addition, exercising equipment are arranged in such a manner that adequate physical distance can be maintained among customers. Also, all of these are sanitised frequently along with all other surfaces and floors.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah recently reported that gyms were offering attractive rates to woo and retain customers. These include packages costing QR200 for a month, QR320 for two months, QR500 for three months, QR800 for six months and QR1,500 for a year.
The prices vary from place to place and some gyms offer even lower prices, according to sources. Hiring personal trainers costs more.
Sayyid Ahmed, a trainee, told the daily that since the resumption of operations, he has observed strict implementation of all the preventive and measures and recommendations of the Ministry of Public Health in this regard, which are aimed at guaranteeing the health and safety of all.
He said all trainees have to bring their own personal hygiene items, such as a towel, bottle of drinking water, sanitiser and other related things. This, along with the other measures in place, allows them to work out in peace - knowing that their health and safety are taken care of.
Roger, a trainer, said their gym had made all preparations ahead of the reopening and the equipment were rearranged around the premises to provide more distance among the trainees.
In addition, the rooms for changing clothes are closed as customers are only allowed to come in their training suits and cannot change their clothes inside the gym. Besides, everything is sanitised frequently to ensure the safety of both customers and staff.
Anil, a reception employee at a gym, said the top priority of any gymnasium now is to protect and guarantee the health and safety of all. The turnout of customers has been encouraging since the reopening, he added, stressing that the prices are attractive in a bid to encourage more customers to come and work out.
