HE the Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) and Secretary-General of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri, participated in the opening ceremony of the new headquarters of the Colombian Human Rights Foundation, via video conference technology.
The ceremony was attended by the President of Colombia Ivan Duque, Chairperson of the Global Alliance of National Human Institutions (GANHRI) Dr Carlos Negret Mosquera, and a number of guests and heads of national human rights institutions around the world.
In his speech, HE al-Marri said that the new headquarters of the Colombian Human Rights Foundation is more than just a building, as it represents the very long Colombian history of defending human rights, and the relentless will to make it verifiable despite the various challenges that the country has faced throughout its history.
He expressed hope that this will be one of the many future developments and achievements.
HE al-Marri’s speech confirms the commitments announced after his election as Secretary-General and Vice-President of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, where he affirmed his readiness to work hard during his mandate to strengthen the independence and performance of national human rights institutions in accordance with Paris Principles, and the commitment to defend and protect human rights globally. - QNA
