Qatari efforts in providing aid and conducting search and rescue operations continued in Beirut yesterday. Qatar’s ambassador to Lebanon Mohamed Hassan Jaber al-Jaber paid a visit to the site of the explosion at Beirut port, in the presence of a delegation from the Lebanese army command and a number of diplomats, the official QNA reported yesterday. During the visit, the envoy met the Qatari Search and Rescue Team of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) participating in the rescue operations at Beirut port, led by Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Eid al-Mohannadi, who briefed al-Jaber on the team’s work progress. He also explained the objectives of the missions entrusted to the team in terms of searching for missing persons and victims, in co-ordination with the Lebanese army and civil defence, QNA added. In a related development, a shipment of medical equipment for the field hospitals donated by Qatar to Lebanon arrived at Beirut’s airport yesterday on an Amiri Air Force aircraft within the air bridge established by Qatar to support Lebanon after the Beirut tragedy, Qatar’s embassy in Lebanon tweeted.
