The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has started construction of a pedestrian bridge at Al Furousiya Street as part of its efforts to ensure better convenience for pedestrians and promote a healthy lifestyle.
The bridge, according to local Arabic daily 'Arrayah', will link the Aspire Park with the nearest streets. The expected completion is in the first quarter of 2021.
Constructing pedestrian bridges are envisaged under the National Road Safety Strategy. The bridge across Al Furousiya Street will benefit motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and persons with special needs. The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) has begun updating the comprehensive plan of pedestrian crossings in Qatar. The plan is upgraded with the aim of improving pedestrian safety. It’s also aimed at reducing accidents in addition to securing transit corridors serving people with disabilities.
Ashghal, while initiating development works, gives top priority to developing walkways and pedestrian bridges. The development works of G-Ring Road by Ashghal include the construction of shared pedestrian and cycling lanes. Footpaths and cycling tracks of around 12km each in length will be constructed with the development of Muaither Sports Club on Al Sailiya Road.
As part of the Doha Central Development and Beautification Projects, Ashghal is building footpaths and pedestrian crossings to encourage people using various modes of transportation. The upgrading works on Al Tarfa Intersection will help the local residents as Ashghal is constructing a 2-km long pedestrian-cum-cycle path.
