*Approves draft law to establish Commercial Court

The Cabinet has expressed its support for the official request that the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has submitted to the International Olympic Committee to join the "continuous dialogue" to host a future edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as early as 2032.
The Cabinet stressed that Qatar is qualified to host one of the Olympic and Paralympic Games for the first time in the Middle East, due to its distinguished organisational experience, integrated infrastructure, modern sports facilities, comprehensive development renaissance, and for its prestigious position in the global sports field, which allowed Qatar to organise the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as well as its distinguished hosting of many regional, continental and international sports tournaments, and its continuous and fruitful efforts to develop sport locally and internationally, as an effective way to promote world peace and spread the spirit of cooperation, solidarity and brotherhood in the world.

The (Commercial Court) draft law contains provisions related to the establishment of the court, its chairmanship, management and organisational structure, its headquarters and budget, and the departments that comprise it and the formation of each department and its jurisdiction, as well as the establishing of an electronic system to register cases and requests in matters pertaining to the court, and all appeals against judgments and grievances from orders issued by them, and the establishment of a case management department.

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani chaired Wednesday the regular Cabinet meeting, held using video conference technology.
Following the meeting, HE the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Issa bin Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi said at the beginning of the meeting, the Cabinet congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, on the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Adha, asking Allah Almighty on this occasion good health and happiness for His Highness the Amir, and for people more splendour, goodness, development and prosperity under his wise leadership.
After listening to a presentation by HE the Minister of Public Health on the latest developments to reduce the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), the Cabinet affirmed to continue working with the announced precautionary measures to combat this pandemic.
The Cabinet then considered the topics on the agenda as follows:
First - Approval of the draft law establishing the Commercial Court and the law to issue it.
The draft law has been prepared within the framework of the initiative to develop justice systems and create an attractive investment environment in line with other steps taken by the State in this regard.
The Cabinet had agreed to the requirements for the establishment of the court, including the allocation of an independent headquarters and a special budget for the court, the appointment of a specialised judicial team and the provision of trained staff.
The draft law contains provisions related to the establishment of the court, its chairmanship, management and organisational structure, its headquarters and budget, and the departments that comprise it and the formation of each department and its jurisdiction, as well as the establishing of an electronic system to register cases and requests in matters pertaining to the court, and all appeals against judgments and grievances from orders issued by them, and the establishment of a case management department.
The project also included the procedures to ensure the speedy settlement of commercial cases and disputes, and the implementation of court rulings.
Second - Approval of the two draft urban planning laws and their executive regulations.
The preparation of the draft law aims to complete the requirements for implementing the comprehensive urban plan in Qatar and within the framework of the urban development strategy and the preparation of legislative tools related to the competencies of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
