Arab countries, with Qatar’s participation, were successful in ensuring their ministers’ approval of the “General Agreement”, and the “Arab Common Market for Electricity”, which opens “new horizons” of Arab co-operation and co-ordination, said HE the Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi.
He was speaking as leader of Qatar’s delegation to the extraordinary meeting of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, which was held virtually yesterday. 
In his remarks al-Kaabi said, “The Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity comes at a critical time that requires the exchange of visions and experiences, as well as unified efforts by Arab member countries in order to enhance co-operation between Arab countries in the field of electricity, especially during the exceptional circumstances the world is facing.”
“The efforts of the Arab countries, with the participation of the State of Qatar, were successful in ensuring ministers’ approval of the General Agreement, and the Arab Common Market for Electricity, which opens new horizons of Arab co-operation and co-ordination, enhancing integration between Arab countries, and realising the aspirations of its people for progress, and prosperity.” Al-Kaabi reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to help strengthen Arab co-operation in the field of electricity, “as part of our wise leadership’s belief in the role of the electricity sector in advancing economic and social development for the peoples of the Arab nation.”
The meeting started with a speech by Dr Mohamed Shaker al-Marqabi, chairman of the extraordinary meeting of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, followed by Ahmed Abul-Ghait, Arab League secretary-general. 
It also included a presentation and discussion of the items on the agenda, during which the meeting approved the General Agreement, and the Arab Common Market for Electricity Agreement.
The meeting was also attended by Essa Hilal al-Kuwari, president, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa).
The ministerial meeting was preceded by the twelfth meeting of the Electricity Experts Committee in the Arab Countries on Sunday, which was held with the participation of Qatar. 
The meeting submitted the “most important recommendations” on the Arab Common Market for Electricity to the Council, a statement said.
