* Increasing number of lanes at three main intersections of D-Ring Road
* Construction of new underpass at Fereej Al Ali Interchange (known as Al Tadamon Intersection)
* Project scheduled to be completed by Q1, 2022

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has started implementing the D-Ring Road upgrade works.
The project is aimed at improving traffic at the three main intersections of D-Ring Road and providing free-flowing vehicular movement by increasing the number of lanes at the Fereej Al Ali Interchange (known as Al Tadamon Intersection) and Nuaija Intersection and also free-flowing traffic at the signal known as LuLu intersection, Ashghal said in a statement Sunday.

The improvements at these intersections will reduce congestion in the area, especially at Al Tadamon Intersection, which currently witnesses high traffic volume.
The works will include the construction of a rainwater drainage tunnel with a total length of about 3.5km to improve the efficiency of drainage networks in the area. They will also include the construction of shared pedestrian and cycling lanes along the 4.5km D-Ring Road on both sides.
Well-planned diversions will be implemented in the project area to allow the execution of construction works and to reduce the impact on traffic flow in the area, Ashghal said. The completed sections of the projects will be gradually opened to traffic and the project is scheduled to be completed by Q1, 2022.

LuLu Intersection will be improved by allowing free-flowing traffic from Airport Road towards Fereej Al Ali Interchange along D-Ring Road

Badr Darwish, manager of the Highway Projects Department at Ashghal, said the improvement works that have just started on D-Ring Road are part of the overall plan that aims to achieve the highway network connecting the main parts of the country, besides the construction of a new underpass at Fereej Al Ali Interchange (known as Al Tadamon Intersection) with three lanes in both directions. It will provide free-flowing traffic at the intersection, which is one of the most congested intersections in the area.

The Qatari heritage of the area surrounding the project, known as Rawdat Al Khail, was considered during the design phase. Accordingly, elements inspired from the Qatari environment will be featured on murals inside the underpass that will be built as part of the project, Ashghal statement points out.
Mohamed Sami Jamal from the Highway Projects Department said the importance of this project and all the upgrades that will be implemented on D-Ring Road lies in its strategic location.

Upgrade works at 3 intersections

* Fereej Al Ali Interchange (known as Al Tadamon Intersection): An underpass with three lanes in each direction will be constructed at Fereej Al Ali Interchange to provide free-flowing traffic on D-Ring Road. The existing signalised junction will be improved by increasing the number of lanes from three to four in each direction at the intersection with Al-Montazah Street, which will significantly increase traffic capacity at the intersection and provide free-flowing traffic.
* Nuaija Intersection: The intersection will be improved by increasing the number of lanes on D-Ring Road to four in each direction, thereby increasing traffic capacity at the intersection.
* LuLu Intersection: The intersection will be improved by allowing free-flowing traffic coming from Airport Road towards Fereej Al Ali Interchange along D-Ring Road, while keeping the traffic light in the opposite direction.
