Commercial Bank has won the “Excellence in Leadership in the Middle East” award at the Euromoney Magazine Awards for Excellence 2020.
Given the extraordinary global events this year, the Euromoney awards are recognising the critical role banks have performed during the Covid-19 pandemic and their responses to it.
Commercial Bank emerged as the leader in the Middle East for 2020 due to its swift and innovative response to the pandemic that ensured business continuity while continuing to support customers and staff to protect their health and safety.
Commercial Bank Group CEO Joseph Abraham stated, “Our five-year strategic plan has strengthened the Bank’s technology foundation and given us the ability to adapt quickly to the current environment. Covid-19 has led to a fundamental change in customer behaviour and increased adoption of digital banking channels. With our strategy of investing in digital technologies in place, Covid-19 has allowed us to accelerate our digital agenda and introduce new innovations that enhance the experience of non face-to- face options or virtual options using digital banking.”
Commercial Bank has taken several measures during the pandemic to meet the market’s requirements and help customers with their daily banking needs through digital channels.
The bank said, “The bank has launched a number of digital firsts in 2020 such as CB Household Worker PayCard, a first-of-it-kind solution in Qatar that allows customers to manage their household workers’ salaries and remittances; CB Smart Payroll; CB Pay, the first mobile wallet in the country; and CB Pay for Merchants, which enables customers to pay for goods and services without leaving their home using just their mobile.
All these measures have enabled seamless banking and payments whilst also ensuring Covid-19 safety and health guidelines are maintained.”
