Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has participated in this year’s Empower youth conference, held virtually under the theme ‘Youth Mobilisation for Inclusion, Peace and Security’.
The 2020 edition of the annual conference was launched recently by the Education Above All Foundation through its Reach Out To Asia (Rota) programme.
QFFD organised a workshop on climate change in addition to moderating two panel sessions titled ‘Relation between media, peace and security’ and ‘Role of youth in media’. The conference was delivered with a new virtual format, V-Empower, to overcome the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The conference served as a forum to promote the importance of engaging youth in peace-building, inclusion and security processes in relevant community, national, regional or international organisations.
The theme also sought to build on the Security Council resolution on youth, peace and security, which recognises the role of young people as agents of peace and emphasises their contribution towards inclusive and sustainable peace.
During the conference, QFFD organised a workshop on the role of youth in addressing climate change.
This gave the youth an opportunity to learn more about the issue of climate change and its effects, as well as about local efforts to combat climate change.
Also, ways of addressing climate change through personal actions were also discussed and young people were introduced to local initiatives concerned with the issue.
The workshop aimed at enhancing young people’s familiarity with the subject to help create a society that is better informed about — and more involved in — climate change-related efforts both now and in the future.
The conference coincided with the International Youth Skills Day, which the United Nations celebrates every July 15.
Accordingly, the conference accompanies the international efforts of this day to activate the role of youth in societies and highlight and develop their professional skills.
QFFD, in co-operation with its local and international strategic partners, focuses on the importance of the role of youth in achieving the goals of sustainable and inclusive development.
“QFFD is constantly studying the possibility of involving youth in all sectors and areas, with the aim of achieving its vision, ‘giving hope and promoting peace and justice through sustainable and inclusive development’,” QFFD said in a statement.
