The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has been shortlisted for the 2020 Sustainability Impact Awards by British Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, in the Sustainability Campaign for Public Sector category.
This was announced by Ashghal through its social media platforms yesterday.
The authority said it was shortlisted in recognition of its initiatives to promote sustainability and environmental protection in its development initiatives.
Ashghal was nominated for this award for its Green Award Programme that was launched in 2018. And it’s competing against two international institutions. According to Saoud al-Tamimi, Roads Projects department manager, Ashghal launched initiatives to promote sustainability and encourage recycling with all of its projects.
These were launched in order to drive change that reflects on the community by protecting the environment and advancing the economy. The Green Award Programme is aimed at encouraging contractors of roads projects in Qatar to adopt positive and innovative environmental solutions.
And the award is given by assessing their performance and effectiveness of solutions in achieving sustainability. Companies with outstanding performance are selected for the award.
Ashghal recently won the Government Sustainability Initiative Award presented by the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of the Qatar Foundation, for applying best environmental practices in project implementation works.
