Qatar’s creative community stands to benefit from M7’s group mentorship development programme aimed at further enhancing their skills and talents.
M7 is a creative start-up hub dedicated to innovation and entrepreneurship, established by Qatar Museums (QM) for the nation’s growing fashion and design industry.
QM is urging its Culture Pass members to join and book M7’s online workshops, which began on July 6 and will run until September 30.
“Our group mentorship development programme aims to expose creatives from all disciplines of design to relevant subjects concerning the future of their industry.
“Focusing on a wide range of topics, our programme helps the next generation of creatives expand their skills and connect with leaders and innovators in their field,” M7 said on its Instagram page.
Dr Thomas Modeen, co-founder of Architects Independent, a multi-disciplinary design and research practice, discussed “Understanding Design Thinking” on Zoom yesterday (July 9), described as “a powerful approach to new product development that begins with understanding unmet customer needs.”
M7, in association with the Doha Film Institute (DFI), also hosted an online workshop titled “How to write winning film grant proposal” on July 6, which was mentored by Grants senior co-ordinator Meriem Mesraoua and DFI Development Amna al-Binali.
Hamida al-Kuwari and Amal al-Muftah who both received grants also joined the session.
Another session will introduce participants “to ‘bio-design’ and its implications and applications.”
Mentored by Felipe Fiallo and Rabab Abdulla, the workshop will start on July 16 from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.
Bio-design is “an emerging design movement which combines the field of science, nature and art, imitating and interacting the human body with the environment.”
On July 23, ‘M7 will also hold a session on “Right-to-Left Arabic Topography” mentored by Wael Morcos.
“When translating graphic and typographic concepts from one writing system to another it comes with a set of challenges as well as considerations.
“In this talk, Wael Morcos will share some of his current work at Morcos Key,” M7 said.
In April and May, M7 also launched a biweekly series of online coaching sessions by leaders in the field, which saw the participation of aspiring designers.
M7’s previous live online programmes on Instagram (@M7.qatar) have supported and inspired the creative community in the country amid the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
A new five-storey, 29,000sq m facility, M7 is located in the heart of Msheireb Downtown Doha, the mixed-use development that is reviving the city’s historic core as a sustainable new live-work neighbourhood.
M7 serves to advance the careers of Qataris in creative industries, especially design and fashion; train aspiring entrepreneurs in creative fields; spark creativity in people of all ages and backgrounds through exhibitions, performances, films, educational programmes, and public discussions; and help connect Qatar’s innovators with the world.
