Number of recovered Covid patients reaches 97,272
* Only 557 cases reported on Thursday

The total number of recovered coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Qatar is nearing the 100,000 mark as the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Thursday reported 1,165 recoveries in the last 24 hours, taking the total so far to 97,272.
The MoPH also reported 557 new confirmed cases on Thursday along with four deaths.
The deceased were aged 52, 53, 63 and 76 years. They all received the necessary medical care, the Ministry said.
All new cases are in isolation and are receiving the necessary healthcare according to their health status, the Ministry said.
Measures to tackle Covid-19 in Qatar have succeeded in flattening the curve and limiting the spread of the virus, the statement said, adding the number of new daily cases and hospital admissions is continuing to decline each week.
Qatar’s proactive and extensive testing of suspected cases has “enabled us to identify a high number of positive cases in the community,” the statement said.
The country has one of the lowest Covid-19 death rates in the world, it said. This is a result of:
1) Qatar’s young population.
2) Proactive testing to identify cases early.
3) Expanding hospital capacity, especially intensive care, to ensure all patients receive the medical care they need.
4) Protecting the elderly and those with chronic diseases.
The gradual lifting of restrictions and declining numbers do not mean that the Covid-19 pandemic is over in Qatar, the MoPH said.
“Every day between 50 and 100 people are admitted to hospitals with moderate to severe Covid-19 symptoms. Unless people follow all precautionary measures the country may experience a second wave of the virus and see numbers increasing. There are already signs of this happening in other countries around the world,” the statement said.
“Now more than ever, the public must be careful and protect the most vulnerable.”
While the restrictions of Covid-19 are gradually being lifted in Qatar, the Ministry said it is important for everyone to play their role in controlling the virus by following the precautionary measures: adherence to physical distancing, wearing a face mask and washing hands regularly.
Most importantly, it is vital that people continue to protect the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions, the Ministry said.
The MoPH said anyone suffering from Covid-19 symptoms should either contact 16000 helpline or go directly to one of the following designated health centres to undergo the necessary checks: Muaither, Rawdat Al Khail, Umm Slal, or Al Gharrafa Health Centres.
This is important as the earlier the disease is detected the easier it will be to receive the right treatment and recover from it, the Ministry said.
